UNIVERSITY of the East has landed a commitment from Chiang Kai Shek College guard Fran Yu, according to a source.
A skilled but relative unknown high school player, the 5-foot-8 Blue Dragons guard hopes to be a key piece for the Red Warriors.
Yu won the Finals Most Valuable Player in this year’s Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship Ironcon Builders Cup, scoring 21 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
Another CKSC Blue Dragons cager in Shannon Gagante has also committed to the Derrick Pumaren-mentored Red Warriors.
UE missed the Final Four last year, bowing to eventual champion National University in a playoff for the No. 4 seed in the Final Four.
CKSC graduating star JV Gallego is expected to suit up for the NU Bulldogs in the UAAP, joining former teammate Mohammed Salim in the pool.
