BELEAGUERED coach Aldin Ayo has been indefinitely banned in the UAAP.
The former University of Santo Tomas head coach will be prohibited from holding any post from all eight member-schools at the end of a thorough deliberation of the UAAP Board of Trustees (BOT) on Wednesday.
"After a thorough deliberation, the UAAP BOT ratified the decision of the BMD to ban coach Aldin Ayo indefinitely from participating, in any capacity, in all UAAP events and UAAP sanctioned-activities," the statement read.
Ayo announced his resignation on Friday, which UST accepted on Saturday morning.
The Board of Trustees, made up of the presidents of the league's eight member-schools, based its decision on the report of the UST fact-finding committee which tagged the Sorsogon-born mentor as the 'mastermind' of the Bicol bubble training that got the school in hot water, both with the league and the government.
"The ban is based on the UST report that showed Ayo endangering the health and well-being of the student athletes under his charge when he conducted the training during a government-declared state of public emergency intended to arrest the COVID-19 outbreak," the statement continued.
Ayo has established himself as one of the best coaches in the college ranks after leading Letran and La Salle to championships as well as steering UST to the finals this past UAAP Season 82 in just his second season in charge.
Aside from the UAAP ban, Ayo also stands accused at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), which are conducting their own investigation into the controversial Sorsogon training.
The ban, however, won't necessarily be leaving Ayo without options since it only covers the UAAP. The controversial coach can still take jobs in the NCAA or other leagues, if he so pleases.
