SEAN Chambers has long carried a unique fighting mantra, one borne from his PBA days and now carried into his head coaching stint with Far Eastern University.

As he puts it: “No chamba, just Chambers.”

The 60-year-old legend walked down memory lane with SPIN.ph, sharing the backstory behind the battlecry he’s lived by for decades.

Back when Chambers’ Alaska teams routinely clashed with fan favorite powerhouses Ginebra and San Miguel, every shot he made was dismissed as ‘lucky’ by rival supporters.

But the Milkmen faithful never let it pass, defending their resident import with full conviction.

“That comes from back in my Alaska playing days. When we used to play against Ginebra, San Miguel, if I make a shot, they’d go, ‘Chamba, chamba, chamba!’” the PBA great said.

“And the Alaska fans would go, ‘No, that’s Chambers!’ They were very like, ‘No, no, no, that’s Chambers, not chamba!’”

FEU-ture is bright

That same mentality is what the six-time PBA champion is banking on, as the Tamaraws push for an unlikely, yet still possible, Final Four berth with a 5-7 record and two games left in UAAP Season 88.

Their latest win, an 84-83 stunner over title contender La Salle, only strengthened Chambers’ belief that the green-and-gold is far more than just a team catching breaks.

FEU can, in fact, shape its own destiny.

“What I told the guys: as a player and as you become a young man, if you have the opportunity to control your own destiny, that’s the best place to be,” he said.

“We have a chance to continue to take care of our business, keep winning games, and see where the chips fall from there.”

Regardless of how things ultimately unfold for the Tamaraws, Chambers vowed: ‘it won’t be chamba.’
