FAR Eastern University formalized its entry into the Final Four with a 90-73 win over Adamson on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 77 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Achie Inigo had 18 points, Mike Tolomia added 17, and Mac Belo finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds for the Tamaraws, who continued their hold of first place with a 10-2 win-loss slate.
FEU, which holds a seven-game winning streak, is still gunning for one of two twice-to-beat incentives in the Final Four.
“Ang goal talaga ng team is top two,” said FEU acting coach Eric Gonzales. “’Yun ang gusto naming ma-achieve dahil na-best-of-three kami ng La Salle last year.”
FEU also swept its two games without head coach Nash Racela, who is in Spain to join Gilas Pilipinas in the Fiba World Cup. Racela is set to return in time for Sunday’s game against Far Eastern University.
The Tamaraws won after trailing early, 15-3, but ended the first period with a 15-3 run of their own to keep the game close before eventually controlling the game.
Roger Pogoy also had 12 points on 3-of-5 from threes, some of which came in the fourth that thwarted Adamson’s comeback try.
Adamson (0-12) is still winless with only two games remaining in the season for the Falcons.
