THE last two finalists of the UAAP - Far Eastern University and National University - went perfect on Sunday as all of their players were selected in the PBA Rookie Draft held at the Robinsons Midtown in Ermita, Manila.
As expected, Mac Belo, Mike Tolomia, Roger Pogoy, Carl Bryan Cruz and Russel Escoto, all members of the Gilas cadets, were selected in the special draft, but two more players from the Tamaraws in Alfrancis Tamsi and Achie Inigo had their names called out during the proceedings.
Tamsi, known for his outside shooting, was picked by GlobalPort, while Inigo, a point guard for the Tamaraws, was drafted by Phoenix in the third round of the draft.
NU had the same success.
Despite having no players in the Gilas cadets roster, the Bulldogs also went perfect in the 2016 edition of the draft with Gelo Alolino, Reden Celda, Jeff Javillonar, Tristan Perez, and Pao Javelona being picked by different teams.
Spencer Eman, a former member of the Bulldogs although he was not part of the 2014 championship team, was also selected in the draft by GlobalPort.
Alolino was picked second in the second round by Phoenix, which later selected two more players from NU in Javillonar and Javelona.
Celda, meanwhile, went to NLEX.
An NU contingent led by current players J-Jay Alejandro and Matt Salem went to the venue to show support to their former teammates.
"Lahat ng NU boys na-draft. Masaya ako sa sarili ko, masaya ako para sa kanila," said Celda.
