FAR Eastern University used a huge third-quarter run en route to a 93-75 win over La Salle on Sunday to regain its winning ways in the UAAP Season 78 seniors basketball at the Mall of Asia Arena.
A 20-0 run gave the Tamaraws full control, taking a 77-54 lead on the way to their second win in three matches.
FEU bounced back from a one-point defeat to league-leading University of Santo Tomas on Wednesday.
La Salle, which trailed by only two points at halftime, suffered its second consecutive loss for a 1-2 win-loss record.
Heroes were aplenty for the Tamaraws with Mike Tolomia making up for his 10-turnover game against UST by finishing with 20 points and five assists.
Mac Belo had 17 points while Prince Orizu and Roger Pogoy combined for 16 in the third quarter.
The Tamaraws, who held a precarious 57-54 lead before that key third-quarter run, also shot 14 for 34 from three-point range.
FEU coach Nash Racela, however, said the win was down to their defense.
“We’ve always emphasized on playing defense. That’s the reason why we won against Ateneo. All of a sudden, we didn’t play any kind of defense against UST. Actually binalik lang namin. Players were up to the challenge,” said Racela.
Jeron Teng had 29 points and 10 rebounds for the Green Archers, who shot just 2-of-14 from three-point range.
