JANREY Pasaol of Far Eastern U came out of nowhere to snare MVP honors in this wild UAAP Season 88 men's basketball tournament.
The sophomore playmaker was a consistent force for the Tamaraws in earning 81.5 statistical points (SPs), according to SPIN.ph's unofficial computations, from averages of 15.4 points, a league-best 7.5 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.1 steals.

It's the best consolation for the Davaoeno court general, as they missed out on the Final Four with their 7-7 win-loss record after La Salle shut the door to the playoffs with a 78-72 victory over Ateneo.
As such, Pasaol is, presumptively, the first MVP from FEU since Terrence Romeo won the award in Season 76 back in 2013.
While the 5-foot-11 guard will not be playing in the Final Four, he can still be hailed as top individual player, as league rules no longer state that the MVP should come from a playoff team. A recent example is De La Salle Zobel's Kieffer Alas in last year's juniors tournament.
He edged out La Salle energizer Mike Phillips, who had 79.71 SPs courtesy of 13.4 points, league-best 15.4 boards, and 3.1 assists, as well as National U forward Jake Figueroa, who garnered 77.29 SPs from 13.9 points, 7.2 boards, 3.9 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.0 block for the honors.
Growling Tigers round out Mythical Team
University of Santo Tomas rookie big Collins Akowe actually ranked third at 79.29, notching 16.4 points, 14.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.4 steals.

UST's Nic Cabanero, who led the league in scoring with 16.8 points, completed the Mythical Team with his 66.64 SPs.
