THE UAAP board officially forfeited five won games of the Far Eastern University women’s basketball team on Thursday after one its players was found to have suited up in a commercial league this season.
The league made the decision during its regular board meeting when Vangie Soriano was discovered to have played in a tournament that was held simultaneously with the ongoing Season 76.
Soriano was disqualified from playing this season after seeing action in a championship game of a 10-day commercial league last July 14.
The forfeiture resulted in the three-peat seeking Lady Tamaraws dropping to an even 7-7 record for fifth place after finishing the eliminations with a 12-2 slate last Wednesday.
The team however, is still in a precarious position in its title defense as it is currently in fifth place behind University of Santo Tomas and Adamson (7-6) going into the two teams' final game of the season.
UST will face University of the Philippines (6-7) on Saturday, while Adamson will have a relatively strong opponent in second-running De La Salle (11-2) on Wednesday.
