TERRENCE Romeo’s last-minute decision to enter the PBA rookie draft has left a gaping hole in Far Eastern University’s lineup in the next UAAP season, Tamaraws coach Nash Racela admitted.

Romeo's sudden departure came at a time when the Tamaraws were already reeling from the exit of star guard RR Garcia and Gryann Mendoza who had both finished their college eligibility with the team.

Garcia has also joined the November 3 rookie draft.

“Big loss talaga, especially sabay pa with RR (Garcia) and Gryann (Mendoza),” FEU coach Nash Racela admitted.

Romeo filed his draft application just two hours before the deadline on Friday in a sudden change of heart after initially saying he will be staying for his fifth and final year with the school in 2014.

FEU officials, however, said they understood Romeo’s decision since the high-scoring guard can only join the draft in 2015 if he had stayed with the Tamaraws for the next UAAP season.

With Garcia and Romeo now gone, many believe the Tamaraws will now be Mike Tolomia’s team as the shooting guard is expected to get more touches after settling for being the third option on offense behind Romeo and Garcia last season with a 9.4-point average.

But Racela refuses to ponder on Romeo’s absence this early, saying only time will tell how the Tamaraws' lineup will shape up next season.

“Time will tell kung anong impact ‘yung absence ni Terrence. But from our end, we will do our best to prepare the others,” Racela said

The FEU coach is also hoping big men Mark Belo, Carl Bryan Cruz, and Anthony Hargrove can blossom into take-charge guys for the team in the absence of the two former UAAP MVPs.

“Hopefully, by next season, they’ll be ready to step forward and take the challenge,” said Racela.
