WHILE Raymar Jose and Monbert Arong grabbed the spotlight in Far Eastern University’s win over Ateneo, Tamaraws head coach Nash Racela lauded the effort of the entire squad in extending the UAAP semifinal series to a deciding match.

Racela said the effort of the entire squad is exactly what the Tamaraws need to overcome twice-to-beat Ateneo, which had swept their elimination-round matches.

“Everybody contributed to the cause,” Racela said.

Prince Orizu flirted with a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds, while Wendell Comboy kept the Tamaraws in the game with eight points, all in the first half.

Ron Dennison, Axel Inigo, and Kenneth Tuffin also had quality minutes for the Tamaraws.

“Today, from the first to the 16th person, wala akong maalala na isang player na pinasok ko na hindi nakapagbigay ng contribution.

Jose was the man of the match when he finished with 20 points and 23 rebounds, while Arong had nine of his 13 points in the fourth quarter that saw FEU outscore Ateneo, 27-19.

“That’s what we need especially in the next game,” Racela said.

The FEU coach said his trust in his players never wavered through their struggle in the late stretch of the season that saw the Tamaraws lose three straight games.

“The way we treat them, they are not young. We give them a little trust and responsibilities. Even though when they struggle, hindi na namin sila kinakausap. We allow them to think things over at pag-aralan ang sarili nila,” said Racela.
