Racela fears anticipation of 'dream finals match-up' may turn into a nightmare for FEU

AS Far Eastern University capped off its elimination round, head coach Nash Racela bared he’s more concerned with the Tamaraws’ more dangerous obstacle off the court than the Ateneo team they will face in the Final Four.

The defending champion Tamaraws entered the Final Four of UAAP Season 79 by finishing third in the eliminations with an 9-5 win-loss record, and will have to beat second-seed Ateneo twice to advance to the Finals.

But instead of sizing up their semis opponent, Racela is more wary about the conditioning of the public’s minds in what he described as a ‘dream match-up’ in the UAAP Finals.

“That’s not my concern who we face. Ang problema ko is the dream match-up,” said Racela, without elaborating, during the post-game interview following the win over UE.

“Because now, people have been putting in peoples’ minds na there is a dream match-up. I just read about it na they missed it for a number of years. Now everybody wants to see that. That’s my concern kung ipipilit nila ‘yun. That’s really my concern,” said Racela.

Racela didn’t mention what exactly is the ‘dream match-up’ although archrivals La Salle and Ateneo took the top two seeds, needing only a win to seal a UAAP basketball finals rematch after five years.

“I know FEU and Adamson also want to play in the finals. I think they are deserving to be there,” said Racela.

Despite the odds, Racela said the Tamaraws will do their best in order to get past Ateneo and earn a shot at defending their crown.

“We have a better dream. I have a different dream. There is a different match-up in my dream,” Racela said.
