FAR Eastern University coach Nash Racela said he was proud of the effort the Tamaraws showed on Wednesday despite coming out on the losing side of a thrilling conclusion to their Final Four series against Ateneo.

The Tamaraws fell short of a third straight finals appearance when they dropped a 69-68 decision to Ateneo in overtime after Ron Dennison’s last-gasp fastbreak layup came a split second too late.

Racela said he couldn't ask for more from the Tamaraws in what turned out to be his final game as coach of the team.

“Tinanong ko lang sa kanila if they did their best, the answer was yes,” said Racela. “Sa amin naman, that’s all we ask from our players. Alam naman namin as a coach, sometimes you don’t really look at the wins or losses.

“Sometimes if you win pero nakita mo na 60 percent ang binigay, you don’t like that. Even if we lost, we gave a 100 percent. I was so proud of how we played today and how we performed the whole season,” said Racela.

As he prepares to move to the PBA where he will hold the same capacity for TNT KaTropa, Racela said he will be filled with pride each time he looked back at his stint with FEU.

Racela said the future also looks good for the Taamraws.

“I don’t want my stint with FEU to be defined by this last game. I think we did well with the program and I know a lot of positive things will come after," said Racela, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday.

"Si Roger (Pogoy) nga, sabi sa kanila, it’s the same thing that we had in 2014 when we lost to NU but we came back the following year.

“It’s a good motivation for us. It’s good that the players are experiencing this at an early stage.”
