UNIVERSITY of the East just turned from bad to worse.

The Red Warriors, depleted and all, have been condemned to their 13th straight defeat, as they were at the wrong end of a 95-76 beatdown no thanks to Far Eastern University on Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Without head coach Chris Gavina and team captain Wello Lingolingo, the Recto squad could not shake off the stinging feeling of loss and was further demoralized with the Tamaraws' 30-point second quarter that broke the game wide open, 52-39, at the half.

FEU, for its part, just pounced on the opportunity and annexed that spread to its biggest edge at 25, 79-54, to end the first round of the UAAP Season 88 men's basketball tournament by snapping their two-game slump and rise to 2-5.

Jorick and Janrey show the way

Jorick Bautista had his guns ablaze, as he shot 3-of-6 from distance to wind up with 22 points, four rebounds, and two assists, breaking the floodgates with that superb 13-point first half.

Janrey Pasaol led three Tamaraws to record a double-double, logging 17 points, 10 boards, two steals, and two blocks; Mo Konateh got 15 points, 14 rebounds, and three assistsl and Kirby Mongcopa had 12 points, 11 boards, four dimes, two steals, and two rejections.

"Last year, we're 1-6. This year, for me we've had some improvements. We've learned from them, we got better, but we got to get results," said coach Sean Chambers.

"This is probably one of the hardest games for us especially with what's happening with UE, but kudos to my guys."

UE leaned on Precious Momowei's 23-point night, as he also registered 11 rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block in yet another loss to stay as the only winless team in the league at 0-7.

Nico Mulingtapang and Kristoper Lagat both recorded career-high 13 points apiece in the Red Warriors' latest defeat, as they have not celebrated a win since early in the second round of last season.
