UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas defeated Ateneo-A, 68-65, on Saturday to move into the semifinals of the 18th University Games men’s basketball competitions in Bacolod City.
The UAAP runners-up led by Kevin Ferrer eliminated the Blue Eagles team of Kiefer Ravena to set up a semifinal showdown with National University, which beat University of Saint La Salle, 84-69.
Ateneo-B led by Chris Newsome advanced to the semifinal round with a 79-71 victory over West Negros University.
The Blue Eagles-B will take on Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation titlist University of Visayas, which beat Cebu team University of San Carlos, 74-56.
Meanwhile, it will be an all UAAP show in the women’s volleyball semifinals.
UAAP champion De La Salle beat NU, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20, while Far Eastern University defeated University of the Philippines, 25-21, 21-25, 25-22, 25-18
UST defeated USLS, 25-20, 25-21, 25-23, while Adamson thumped Southwestern University, 25-19, 25-16, 25-15.
De La Salle captured the women’s chess tournament title.
