Archers and Bulldogs top group play, Tams and Warriors also advance to UAAP 3x3 semis

LA Salle advanced to the semifinals of the UAAP Season 80 3x3 men’s basketball tournament after topping Group A on Sunday at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall.

The Green Archers defeated Ateneo, 10-9, and University of the East, 13-11. They lost to Adamson, 11-9, but still took first spot in the group with a 2-1 slate.

La Salle is composed of Aljun Melecio, Andrei Caracut, Justin Baltazar and Santi Santillan.

Also moving to the semifinals was UE, which defeated Ateneo, 19-17, following a buzzer-beating two by Philip Manalang.

The Red Warriors, who also have Alvin Pasaol, Mark Maloles and Jason Varilla, finished Group A at second with a 2-1 record.

National University topped Group B following a tie with Far Eastern University and University of the Philippines at the end of the eliminations with a 1-1 card.

The Bulldogs of JP Cauilan, Chami Diputado, Theo Flores, and Anthony Sistoza won over the Juan Gomez de Liano-led UP, 19-17, and lost to FEU, 22-20, but clinched the top spot after scoring the most points among the three teams, 39.

The Tamaraws secured second spot with a 22-20 win after Wendell Comboy hit a two-pointer in overtime. Comboy is playing with Richard Escoto, Kenneth Tuffin and Michael John Casino.

The Maroons’ lone win came at the expense of FEU, 10-7.
