DE LA Salle pulled away in the second half to pull off an 86-65 win over University of the Philippines on Saturday and regain a share of the lead in the UAAP Season 77 men’s basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Almond Vosotros snapped out of a shooting slump by scoring 21 points on 5-of-8 shooting from three-point land as the Green Archers won their seventh straight game after losing their first two games of the season.
That gave La Salle a share of the lead with arch-rival Ateneo at 7-2 (win-loss), although the Blue Eagles have a chance to regain the upperhand on Sunday in a game against National University.
Jeron Teng added 15 points, Jason Perkins had 13 points and 11 rebounds while Arnold Van Opstal scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds in his return to action after a long injury layoff.
La Salle coach Juno Sauler, however, said he wasn't happy with the Archers' lackluster start which he blamed on lack of focus.
“We can’t afford to start this way especially with the lack of mental concentration,” said Sauler.
La Salle only held a 40-34 lead at the half and just had a three-point lead, 44-41, in the third quarter before the Green Archers went on an 11-2 run to kick off the rout.
The Maroons fell to 1-8 win-loss.
