LA Salle coach Aldin Ayo declined to comment on rumors about the University of Santo Tomas head coaching position, but said nothing is definite about him returning to the Green Archers this season.
Finally speaking about the UST rumors before reporters after Game Three of the UAAP Season 80, Ayo had little to say about his name being dragged into the search for the Growling Tigers' next head coach.
”I don’t have to comment on that. Ang iniisip ko pa rin, ‘yung laro muna. ‘Yung team na ‘to. Ayoko ng kung ano-anong mga ganun,” said Ayo.
Ayo’s future with La Salle was touched on by Green Archers long-time supporter Tony Atayde, writing on his Twitter account that Ayo told his players he will not go anywhere.
“Coach Aldin’s post game message, ‘I’m not going anywhere!’” wrote Atayde on his @asgreenasitgets Twitter account.
When asked about the tweet, Ayo admitted he said that to La Salle sophomore Aljun Melecio. However, Ayo said nothing is sure about his future, mentioning that he signed a four-month contract with La Salle beginning in September until December this year.
“I just told Aljun that when I hugged him, because I love these guys. I love my players. I told Aljun that,” said Ayo.
“Pero nothing is definite. Day-to-day basis kami,” Ayo said.
Ayo though admitted he has lots of friends who are now with UST, including the athletic moderator that brought him to Letran in 2015.
“I don’t want to comment on that (UST job). Actually, I have lots of friends sa UST. My former athletic moderator, ‘yung pari na nagdala sa akin sa Manila, he is in UST right now. Adviser ko sa thesis ko, he is a Dominican, nasa UST ngayon. There are a lot of priests, Bicolano priests, Dominican priests na nandoon sa UST. They are my friends. Lots of alumni also from UST (friends).
“Pero regarding the issue kung ano, I don’t want to comment on that,” said Ayo.
