TANAUAN CITY — De La Salle advanced to the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) Elite Eight with a 79-56 win over Centro Escolar University on Monday at the First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (Faith) gym here.
Jeron Teng had 14 points while Thomas Torres added 13 for the Green Archers, who kept their quest for a PCCL repeat by ruling the Luzon-Metro Manila qualifiers.
La Salle led from the get go, grabbing a 40-24 lead at the half and never looked back against the National Athletic Association for Schools and Universities (Naascu) champion.
With Teng and Torres sparking the breakaway early, La Salle coach Juno Sauler was able to give second stringers including newcomers Ben Mbala, Josh Torralba, Daryl Pascual, and Larry Muyang a lot of minutes.
“What’s good was everyone got probably the same number of minutes,” said Sauler. “We are trying to get exposure for the rookies and to the guys who didn’t get to play a lot.
"We are trying to balance the minutes. Hopefully in Cebu, they can get the same exposure.”
The Green Archers begin their Elite Eight campaign on Thursday against Southwestern University at the New Cebu City Coliseum.
