Blue lights illuminate La Salle campus as Green Archers salute rival Eagles

    Dec 3, 2017

LA Salle lit its campus with blue lights on Sunday night following the Green Archers’ loss to Ateneo in the UAAP Season 80 men’s basketball finals.

The university’s Facebook account showed a photo of the St. La Salle building bathed in blue lights as their way of honoring their archrival for winning the UAAP crown in Game Three.

“We celebrate a good fight. We’re proud of you, Green Archers! To the Blue Eagles, congratulations,” wrote the DLSU official Facebook account.

Jingo Badillo, executive director of the La Salle’s Office for Strategic Communications, said the move was an initiative of La Salle president Br. Raymundo B. Suplido, FSC.

“Actually, it’s the move of our president. It’s a gesture of support for the Archers and acknowledgement that Ateneo De Manila won,” said Badillo.

Badillo said La Salle usually lights the facade of the St. La Salle Hall in green, a tradition made since the school re-constructed the driveway in front of the building, during special occasions including victories of the Green Archers in UAAP men’s basketball.

During Independence Day, La Salle lit its facade with a Philippine flag and its colors.

Badillo said La Salle was also supposed to light the St. La Salle Hall with green had the Green Archers won the crown.

”In this case, the president suggested that if Ateneo won, it be turned blue as a sign of acknowledgement,” said Badillo.

For his part, Edwin Reyes, La Salle’s board of managing directors to the UAAP, said the move is timely following the heated finals series.

“After such a hard-fought, controversial season, all these wounds, we know how to accept defeat,” Reyes said.
