SHE may be a fixture among the sea of blue-blooded fans on Ateneo's side of the stands, but don't be fooled.
There's still a part of Mozzy Ravena rooting for Santo Tomas.
“Minsan napapa-`Go Uste’ na nga ako, e,” Mozzy, mother of Ateneo sophomore Kiefer Ravena and a former star of UST's women's volleyball team, told Spin.ph with a laugh.
Mozzy has always been supportive of the career of his son, and she and husband Bong never fail to wear blue every time they watch the games of the Blue Eagles.
But with Ateneo drawing UST as opponent in its bid for a fifth straight UAAP men’s basketball title, Mozzy has found herself torn between her son's team and her alma mater, as was the case in the Eagles' 83-78 win in Game One on Saturday.
It was Kiefer, ironically, who delivered the dagger basket for Ateneo, clinching the win in the final eight seconds of the highly charged game by nailing a pull-up jumper from 18-feet.
Mozzy said it is not easy on her part, so much so that the loyal alumna and loving mother has a bright suggestion on how to determine the winner of the league’s 75th season.
“Oo nga, ang hirap na may kailangang matalo,” she admitted. “Di ba pwede tie na lang? Co-champ?”
Win or lose, Mozzy said the only consolation she got what that UST and her son's team both reached this far this season.
At the same time, Mozzy says she is saddened by the issues being thrown against Kiefer, particularly criticism over his supposed penchant for faking contact during plays to lure referees into calling fouls.
"Parang ang daming issues kaya nakaka-sad,” said Mozzy, turning serious as she defended one of her basketball-playing sons.
“Gusto lang naman din niyang manalo like everyone else,” she added.
