FREDDIE Abuda has been hired as an assistant coach of the De La Salle Green Archers for the coming UAAP season as the reigning champions look to improve on the defensive end.
La Salle coach Juno Sauler said Abuda, who had stints in Purefoods and San Miguel in the PBA, is already attending Green Archers practices and tune-up games.
Sauler said Abuda is a great addition to the coaching staff, with his experience as a player in the PBA a big boost for the Green Archers squad for the coming season.
A rebounding specialist, Abuda is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year and a four-time member of the All-Defensive Team in the PBA.
“His knowledge in basketball, that is where he will help us,” said Sauler.
Abuda, like Sauler, is also an assistant coach of Barangay Ginebra in the PBA. He was also a former assistant coach at San Beda in the NCAA.
Abuda joins a La Salle coaching staff loaded with top PBA players including stars Allan Caidic and Jun Limpot.
“What he can share on offense with coach Allan and coach Jun, we will try to incorporate everything. He has been a big help for us since he started this year,” said Sauler.
The Green Archers are eyeing their second straight crown after winning last season’s title series against University of Santo Tomas.
