DEFENSE has been Far Eastern University's calling card this UAAP Season 82, and coach Olsen Racela has no plan to change that.

To him, it will be the key to beating University of Santo Tomas in their knockout game on Wednesday.

"Ang strength namin is our defense, so it's us taking away their strengths and one of them is yung three-point shooting nila, that's our concern. We need to stop them from hitting those," Racela told Spin.ph.

FEU has been on point with its defense this season, limiting foes to just 33-percent shooting from the field and just 22-percent from deep - both league-bests.

That will come handy against a high-octane UST side which leads the league in scoring with its 79.2 points per outing while shooting 30-percent from beyond the arc - third-best in the UAAP.

Momentum is also on the side of the Tamaraws, who have won six of their last eight games including a three-game win streak to end the eliminations to wind up third in the standings at 8-6.

"We have been playing well the past games and we have momentum," said Racela.

But as good as that stretch was, Racela knows that the Final Four is a different beast altogether.

"That doesn't mean anything when you talk about the Final Four. We have to be at a different level pag nasa Final Four na. What we did in the eliminations will not be enough sa Final Four," said the PBA great.

"When it comes to the Final Four, 0-0 na yan. Knockout stage, every possession counts. I expect this game to be close. Walang blowout games dito sa playoffs, so we just have to prepare hard against UST."
