UNIVERSITY of the Philippines coach Ricky Dandan said the decision on whether or not Bo Perasol will be taken in as consultant of the Maroons will be made solely by him.
Dandan also said talks about Perasol moving to the Maroons camp as a consultant after rescinding a three-year contract he signed with Ateneo are premature, adding there have been no formal negotiations regarding the matter.
“Bo being a consultant for our team is my decision to make, and thus far there are no official talks to that effect,” Dandan told Spin.ph.
Perasol, a former Maroon, was released from his contract with the Eagles "by mutual agreement" on Tuesday as he insisted that he signed on for the job in the belief that he would be working for Manny Pangilinan, who has since cut his ties with the school.
“While I am truly grateful for the trust of Ateneo in me, there was really no doubt in my mind as to who my Patron and Benefactor is — and that is MVP," Perasol said in a statement.
When asked about his reaction to the rumors of him joining UP, Perasol said: “Wala pa instruction regarding that.”
The former Powerade coach did not elaborate which person or what entity he expects to get instructions from, although there have been talks that Pangilinan is planning to shift his support, financial and otherwise, to the Maroons beginning next season.
Pangilinan last week poured in a P5 million donation to the school while pledging his “commitment to the future of UP,” but he has made no commitment to support the Maroons in the same way he supported the Eagles for the last decade.
