UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas pulled off a newer and cleaner look on Saturday as it donned black jerseys for its season-opener against National University.
The Growling Tigers went for a drastic change this UAAP Season 81, switching their primary dark colors from the traditional yellow gold to minimalist black. It garnered varying reactions from both the students and alumni.
Curiously, no tiger prints are in sight with the new kits — a design quirk unseen since 2012 when the UST squad, bannered by Karim Abdul, Jeric Fortuna, and Jeric Teng reached the Finals and settled for a runner-up finish against Ateneo.
UST's reason for the facelift isn't that complicated, really.
"Ito na yung new-look ng UST," assistant coach Bonnie Garcia shared in a quick chat with SPIN.ph before the game.
Despite having the black jerseys for the first time ever, the white jerseys will remain as the team's light uniform.
