NATIONAL University survived Far Eastern University in overtime, 85-79, on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 82 men's basketball tournament at Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Dave Ildefonso scoring six of his 27 points in the extra frame, and finished with 11 rebounds and two assists as the Bulldogs scored a repeat win over the Tamaraws.

NU ended a two-game losing streak, although the Bulldogs remain in the bottom with a 2-7 record.

The victory almost slipped out of the Bulldogs' grasp after losing an 18-point lead, 53-35 midway through the third quarter, allowing the Tamaraws to fight back from 15-points down, 65-50 with eight minutes left in regulation.

Alec Stockton and Royce Alforque triggered the 17-0 blast to help FEU grab a 67-65 lead with 2:02 and set up the cardiac ending.

John Lloyd Clemente buried a trey with 19.8 seconds left to put NU up, 71-69, but Barkley Ebona knotted the game at 71 with an undergoal stab with 14.0 left. JV Gallego had a shot to win the game, but his baseline jumper fell short as time expired.

The Bulldogs started the extension strong, scoring eight straight points to erect a 79-71 lead.

Even that, however, wasn't safe as Tamaraws gunner Ken Tuffin trimmed the deficit down to four, 83-79, with 24.7 left, but Clemente and Shaun Ildefonso iced the game at the charity stripe to escape with the six-point win.

"We just came back to basics," said coach Jamike Jarin. "What was the formula? Going back to basics and staying in level one."

Issa Gaye added a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Clemente shot 4-of-5 from deep to notch 15 points and eight boards in the triumph.

The win allowed NU to sweep FEU after its 61-39 victory last September 25.

The Bulldogs also halted the Tamaraws' two-game win run to send them down to a 4-5 card.

Ebona registered 15 points and 12 rebounds for FEU, while Alforque and Wendell Comboy both had 11 in the defeat.
