UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas guard Ed Daquioag was quick to dismiss ugly speculations over his poor scoring game in Game One of the UAAP seniors basketball Season 78.
Daquioag, one of three senior stars in the Tigers' lineup, finished with only four points on 1-of-7 shooting in 29 minutes as the Tigers dropped a 64-75 decision to Far Eastern University.
No wonder the shifty senior guard immediately became the subject of suspicion from fans, especially in a season where he scored 34 points in one game against University of the East.
Daquioag, though, faced the accusations squarely.
"Hindi totoo 'yun (na byahe ako)," Daquioag told Spin.ph outside the UST dugout at the Mall of Asia Arena. "Basta tingnan na lang nila sa Sabado (Game Two), babawi kami."
Daquioag, who said he is trying not to show his frustration to his teammates, said his meager output was more the result of the Tamaraws' well-executed defense against him.
"Kasi alam na nila ang tendencies ko so 'yung iba papatirahin ako sa labas, kasi alam nilang wala akong shooting. So iwo-work out ko na lang 'yun," he said.
"Frustrated ako pero syempre hindi ko pwedeng ipakita sa kanila na frustrated ako. May Game Two pa naman eh, positive pa rin," he added.
