TO JERON Teng, he is no ‘King Archer.’
The sophomore guard deflected the credit for La Salle’s title conquest after being named the Smart Player of the Year during the Collegiate Basketball Awards on Sunday at Kamayan Restaurant-EDSA.
Teng won the award for his exemplary performance on the court and admirable behavior off it after the former Rookie of the Year helped guide De La Salle to its first UAAP crown since 2007 by beating University of Santo Tomas in the finals.

But Teng stressed that winning the UAAP crown was not a one-man show.
“Hindi lang ako ang King Archer. Lahat sila King Archer,” said Teng. “I won’t be able to win this award as well as the UAAP championship without my teammates.”
Teng was joined in the Collegiate Mythical Team of the UAAP-NCAA press Corps by NCAA Most Valuable Player Raymond Almazan of Letran, Ola Adoegun of San Beda, Terrence Romeo of Far Eastern University, and Bobby Ray Parks of National University.
La Salle coach Juno Sauler and San Beda mentor Boyet Fernandez were named Coaches of the Year for leading their respective teams to the title of their respective leagues.
Meanwhile, Jeric Teng of University of Santo Tomas, RR Garcia of FEU and Rome Dela Rosa of San Beda were awarded the Super Senior awards for their play in their final year of college eligibility.
Other La Salle and San Beda players were also feted in the event backed by Smart Sports, Accel 3XV1, Gatorade, Meralco, Talk 'N Text, Filoil Flying V, UAAP Season 76 host Adamson, NCAA Season 89 host College of St. Benilde and the Philippine Sportswriters Association.
Arnold Van Opstal and Art Dela Cruz were awarded the Pivotal Player honor for their play during the finals series, while Jason Perkins and Baser Amer were given the Impact Player awards.
Romeo and Garcia, now playing for Globalport in the PBA, couldn’t make it to affair due to a prior commitment with FEU while Parks is in Myanmar playing for the national team in the 27th Southeast Asian Games.
