ATENEO coach Tab Baldwin made his first public appearance following the deaths of his players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili in a drowning tragedy in Aurora.
The beleaguered mentor joined his Blue Eagles in a candlelight vigil and memorial mass inside the Quezon City campus on Thursday, honoring the lives of their fallen members.

Baldwin has been under the microscope as he has been mum since the accident which cost the lives of his two players.

Ateneo did shield the mentor, explaining that his silence "reflects the University's decision to place care, healing, and due process ahead of public discussion" and should not be misconstrued as indifference or lack of concern.
A call to Ateneo
Meanwhile, concerned educators from the University appealed to school president Fr. Roberto C. Yap, SJ for "greater clarity and transparency from the University administration" in the wake of the tragic incident.

"As the institution responsible for the safety of our students, we are accountable. The families, the Ateneo community, and the larger public has the right to know and hear Ateneo de Manila's institutional voice," the open letter read.
"We appeal for sincere and humane expressions of apology, empathy, and compassion from the University leaders and coaching staff."
