IN the eyes of La Salle coach Aldin Ayo, Kib Montalbo showed tremendous heart in a game where he was not supposed to suit up after being confined to a hospital for several days.
Montalbo fired 12 points, including a 4-of-9 clip from three-point range, while also coming up with four rebounds, three assists and two steals in La Salle's win over Far Eastern University on Saturday.
Montalbo was discharged just three days ago after a hospital stay due to a viral infection.
"Hindi ako makagalaw," said Montalbo. "Every four hours, may lagnat ako. I don't know what's wrong with my body."
Ayo commended Montalbo's effort as he helped foil a late FEU run.
"Isipin niyo, dehydrated 'yun, galing sa dextrose, hindi na 100 percent 'yun. Siguro nakatulong 'yung mindset na wala ng expectation sa kanya eh kasi galing sa ospital.
"Hindi mo matatawaran 'yung ugali ng bata na kailangan siya ng team, nandoon," said Ayo.
Montalbo said he has yet to hit 100 percent but was determined to it a go, being one of the team's leaders.
"I really want to play. Sabi ng mga doktor, questionable ako today pero sabi ko, lalaro talaga ako kahit ano mangyari," said Montalbo, who still has some scheduled visits to the doctor.
"I have some sort of allergy pero may check-up pa ako. Sabi nila (doktor), tantsahin ko raw, health first. Naglaro ako. As a leader of this team, kailangan nila ako kahit hindi ako makalaro," said Montalbo.
