UNIVERSITY of Sto. Tomas super rookie CJ Cansino went down with a knee injury midway through the second quarter of the match against University of the Philippines on Saturday in the UAAP basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.
Cansino looked to have tweaked his left knee while driving past University of the Philippines David Murrel in the 5:57 mark of the second quarter and the Tigers ahead 34-26. He was stretchered off to the dugout.
Officials say it was a left knee sprain.
The absence of the prolific 6-foot-2 wingman was immediately felt as the Fighting Maroons finished the half with a 16-4 run to take a 42-38 lead at the break.
Cansino had two points and three rebounds. The former UAAP Juniors MVP is one of the frontrunners for the rookie of the year award with averages of 13.7 points, 10.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists before this game.
