Aug 26, 2020

SETTING the record straight after his transfer to University of the Philippines, CJ Cansino has posted screenshots of a group chat among University of Santo Tomas players and their parents that revealed the conditions they had to endure in Sorsogon.

The former team captain of the Growling Tigers shared the conversations the players had with their guardians to shed light on the events in the training bubble in Capuy, Sorsogon that left the school and its officials in hot water.

"Good evening po. Etong mababasa niyo po dito yung mga concern namin sa nangyayari dito sa Sorsogon. I-inform lang po namin kayo sa nangyayari dito," Cansino wrote to get the ball rolling on the conversation, which was dated August 9.

What followed were posts that had the players airing their grievances with Cansino initiating the discussion. Among the first points raised were issues on food which the 20-year-old felt affected the players' health.

Tigers star forward Rhenz Abando also pointed out that the players were left to fend for themselves as some started to feel sick.

Add to that the homesickness and stress that the players had to go through.

Even UAAP Season 82 MVP Soulemane Chabi Yo chimed in and said, "For me even if [we] can go back to Manila now, I'm ready. But if not yet pa, basta uwi na tayo after 2 to 3 months maximum."

These conversations confirm what Spin.ph sources bared were the events that led to the players informing Ayo about their desire to return to Manila after being holed up in Bicol since mid-June.

This incident also led to Cansino, alongside Brent Paraiso and Bismarck Lina, heading back to Manila last Wednesday, with Cansino subsequently being kicked out of the team.

As Cansino's departure and eventual move to the UP Maroons camp became public, details of the team's training bubble and breach of health protocols amid the pandemic prompted investigations by the UAAP and an IATF-created panel.

UST has launched an investigation into the matter. The findings are set to be presented to an IATF panel made up of representatives of the Department of Health, Games and Amusements Board, and the Philippine Sports Commission on Wednesday.

But even before the meeting could take place, UST announced that Institute of Physical Education and Athletics (IPEA) director Fr. Jannel Abogado, OP has already stepped down from his post on Tuesday.

Cansino told SPIN.ph he got his former teammates' permission to make the content of the group chat public, but later deleted all his posts.
