CHIBUEZE Ikeh has been released by police, hours after he was taken in by authorities after Ateneo’s game against University of the Philippines on Wednesday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Ateneo athletic director Em Fernandez confirmed in an SMS message that Ikeh is already out of Camp Karingal in Quezon City where authorities took the Cameroonian import after a complaint was lodged against him for alleged violations of Republic Act 9262 or the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act.
The bond was P24,000.
Fernandez also said the Cameroonian import is set to be in uniform for Ateneo’s next game when the Blue Eagles go up against La Salle on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Uniformed policemen and persons in civilian clothes were noticeably in the vicinity of Ateneo’s dugout minutes after the Blue Eagles’ win over UP. Those persons were also seen meeting with Ateneo officials led by Fernandez, head coach Bo Perasol, and team manager Epok Quimpo inside the dugout for about two hours. Ikeh later left the Big Dome in a unmarked vehicle.
Fernandez later described the incident as a “private matter” by “one of their students” and has nothing to do with the basketball team or the UAAP.
