UNTIL now, CJ Cansino says he is puzzled with his sudden departure from University of Santo Tomas.
Speaking on Anong Tunay?!, the 20-year-old said that it remains a mystery for him that he was quickly outed from the Growling Tigers squad and wasn't even given another chance to prove himself.
"Yan din yung tanong na pumapasok sa isip ko, bat ganun? Bakit ang bilis naman nila mag-decision?" he said.
"Hindi man lang nila ako nabigyan ng second chance para makabawi man lang at di ako tuluyang umalis. Yun ang pumapasok sa isip ko nung panahon na tinanggal ko. Hindi ko rin masagot kasi yun din yung tanong sa isip ko na bat ang bilis nila akong tinanggal."
Cansino said he was kicked out of the team, with sources saying a strained relationship between him and coach Aldin Ayo which led to his ouster.
It was a heart-wrenching news for the 6-foot-2 court general who has repeatedly professed his love for his alma mater.
"Unang pumasok sa isip ko, UST yung nagbigay ng chance na maabot ko yung pangarap, pero UST din pala yung magaalis nun," he said.
When he was told of the news, Cansino even doubted if there will be teams willing to take him in.
"The moment na sinabi sa akin na, 'CJ, you're off the team,' naisip ko may kukuha pa kaya sa akin? Yung feeling na baka wala na kumuha sa akin, wala nang kumuhang school. Heartbreak sa akin kasi di ko alam kung matutuloy pa pangarap ko mag-basketball player at makapagtapos kasi walang kasiguraduhan kung may kukuha sa akin," he said.
But University of the Philippines was quick to the chase and immediately welcomed Cansino on Friday.
He will have to spend a year in residency before he can make his debut for the Fighting Maroons come UAAP Season 84.
"Ang pinakababaunin ko is pakikisama sa tao. Knowing UST, pinagsama sama niya kung ano mang estado mo sa buhay, mahirap, mayaman, sama-sama sa UST. Makikita mo doon yung iba't ibang tao so matututo ka makisama kung ano sila, ano ugali nila, at saan sila galing," he said.
"Yun ang dadalhin ko sa susunod kong school. Alam ko mahihirapan ako kasi kailangan ko rin mag-adapt sa culture nila."
