CANDICE Magdaluyo led the charge for University of Santo Tomas in boosting its bid for the remaining semifinals berth with a 74-70 win over Adamson University on Tuesday in the UAAP Season 79 women's basketball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Magdaluyo had 16 points for the Tigresses, which also drew an all-around game from Shanda Anies, who had 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals, while Jhenn Angeles added 12 markers.
With defending champion National University, La Salle and University of the East already in the semis, UST increased its chances of completing the Final Four as it notched its sixth win in 13 contests.
The Lady Falcons dropped to 5-7, now half-a-game behind the Tigresses in the race for the last semifinals berth.
Jamie Alcoy led Adamson with 16 points and seven boards, while Kaye Pingol and Jo Razalo added 13 and 12 markers respectively.
Meanwhile, Pesky Pesquera scored 12 points, including the game-winning triple in the dwindling seconds as University of the Philippines nipped Far Eastern University, 46-44, for its second win in 12 contests.
Antonia Wong also had 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lady Maroons.
The Lady Tamaraws fell to 3-10 in seventh spot.
