UST boasts of two top scorers in UAAP Season 87. Find out who

TO no one’s surprise, Kevin Quiambao showed the way not just for La Salle but for the whole league, as he emerged as the top scorer at the end of eliminations in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.

The reigning Season MVP was the rock for the Green Archers in averaging 16.64 points from 30.69-percent shooting from deep in a season where he reset his career-best marks twice, including a 33-point night against archrival Ateneo.

Nic Cabanero, the leading scorer the past two seasons, finished second as the University of Santo Tomas gunner recorded 16.29 points.

Behind him are Growling Tigers teammate Mo Tounkara who scored 13.85 points, Far Eastern University super rookie Veejay Pre with 13.29 points, and University of the East dynamo Precious Momowei with 12.77 points.

Rounding out the top 10 are FEU’s Jorick Bautista (12.43 points), La Salle’s Michael Phillips (12.0 points), the University of the PhilippinesJD Cagulangan (11.75 points), National University’s Jake Figueroa (11.0 points), and Ateneo’s Jared Bahay (10.64 points).

Ateneo’s Shawn Tuano had the best field goal mark in the league with his 47.32-percent clip, followed by FEU’s Mo Konateh (47.15-percent), Phillips (46.32-percent), Tounkara (45.86-percent), and NU’s PJ Palacielo (42.62-percent).

Kyle Paranada of UST ended up as the best marksman from distance with his 42.86-percent three-point shooting, followed by NU’s Steve Nash Enriquez (37.78-percent), UP’s Terrence Fortea (33.96-percent), and the Adamson pair of Mathew Montebon and Matty Erolon (33.33-percent).

Bautista made the most of his chances for FEU, canning 82.86-percent of his charities, while also having good free throw marks were Quiambao (77.78-percent), Pre (71.43-percent), Adamson’s Cedrick Manzano (70.21-percent), and Bahay (68.89-percent).

Konateh also dominated the boards, grabbing a league-best mark of 16.71 rebounds and 5.79 offensive boards. Behind him were Momowei with 13.77 rebounds, Phillips (11.57 rebounds), Tounkara (10.23 rebounds), and UP’s Quentin Millora-Brown (9.46 rebounds).

UST court general Forthsky Padrigao was the league’s best playmaker with 6.07 assists, a full dime ahead of No. 2 Cagulangan who got 5.0 assists per game. Also in the top five were La Salle’s Joshua David (4.21 assists) and Quiambao (4.07 assists), and Bahay (3.86 assists).

Cagulangan did get the most steals, taking 1.75 swipes per game and nosing out first round leader Phillips, who had 1.71 steals, for the honor. Padrigao is at third with 1.5 steals, followed by Momowei with 1.23 steals, then a tie among FEU’s Janrey Pasaol, UE’s Wello Lingolingo, and Montebon who all had 1.21 steals.

Momowei was the most wasteful with his 4.38 turnovers per game, well ahead of Pre and Figueroa who both had 3.21 errors, Manzano with 3.0 turnovers, and Phillips and Padrigao who both committed 2.86 miscues.
