NATIONAL University opened its title defense of the UAAP juniors basketball crown with a 71-66 overtime victory over Far Eastern University on Saturday at the Blue Eagle Gym.
The Bullpups enter Season 77 of the league hoping to retain their title especially after the school’s men and women’s team recently won the championships in their respective division.
Philip Manalang and Allen Mina had 13 points each while Batang Gilas cager Mark Dyke and Oliver De Guzman added 11 each for the Bullpups, who are entering the season with several key players in Hubert Cani and JP Cauilan no longer with the team.
Marvin Lee had 16 points for the Baby Tamaraws.
In the morning matches, University of the Philippines Integrated School defeated University of the East, 67-54, with Bryan Lina scoring 15 for the Junior Maroons.
Adamson beat University of Santo Tomas, 75-69, with the Baby Falcons already matching their winning output from Season 76.
