NATIONAL University faces tough competition from battle-scarred teams when the Bulldogs leave for Australia within the month to play a series of tune-up games in preparation for the upcoming UAAP season.

NU coach Eric Altamirano said the Bulldogs will play semi-professional and developmental teams in Perth for eight days almost two months before the 76th season of the UAAP kicks off.

Altamirano didn’t bare the specific teams lined up for the Bulldogs but he expects top-class competition when they leave for Perth on May 25.

“Malalaki at mga mama ‘yun,” said Altamirano in describing the quality of teams they will be playing.

To accommodate NU’s Australia training, organizers of the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup have slated May 17 as the Bulldogs’ final play date in the eliminations when they face University of the Philippines.

The Bulldogs will return in time for the quarterfinal round slated June 3.

With two-time UAAP MVP Bobby Ray Parks leading the squad, NU is seeking another Final Four stint after finishing third at the end of the eliminations last season. The Bulldogs eventually lost to University of Santo Tomas in the semifinals.
