UNIVERSITY of the Philippines' biggest nightmare came to life as Bright Akhuetie got carried off with a hyperextended knee injury midway through the third period in Game One of the UAAP Season 81 finals against Ateneo.
Akhuetie got taken out in the 6:31 mark of the third quarter, clutching on his left knee and had to be stretchered off the court after what looked like a nudge from Blue Eagles center Ange Kouame.
Ateneo was ahead, 50-44, when that happened.
There was no call upon contact enraging all of the Fighting Maroons' fans among the 21,608 people in attendance.
Akhuetie, who's set to be named the Most Valuable Player on Wednesday, was carried off the venue to MVP chants from the UP crowd. He had five points and four rebounds.
The good news for UP fans is Akhuetie returned to the bench in the 31 second mark of the third period.
