UNIVERSITY of the East gunner Bon Batiller admitted that an incident with Omar Larupay in practice may have been the reason why they rode the bench on Saturday against Adamson.
The Red Warriors could have used one of their top scorers in their 71-79 loss to the Falcons in UAAP Season 79, but Batiller had no qualms on the possible disciplinary action by his coach Derrick Pumaren on his scuffle with Larupay that fortunately didn’t involve an exchange of blows.
“Hindi ko rin alam. Siguro dahil may naka-away ako na teammate ko sa practice,” said Batiller, who clarified that they threw no punches except verbal jabs.
“Hindi naman. Parang biruan lang po, nagkapikunan lang,” added the UE guard, who is averaging 10.6 points per game this season. “Expected ko po na ipapasok ako pero rinerespeto ko ‘yung decision ni coach. Sa Gensan, nag-simula naman tayo sa ganyan. Okay lang ‘yun, muntikan na rin naman Manalo.”
Pumaren was more tight-lipped on why Batiller and even Larupay didn’t play
“It’s a coaches’ decision,” said Pumaren, without elaborating.
Batiller also shared that he and Larupay have already settled whatever difference they had.
“Na-settle na rin po ni Manong (Pumaren),” said Batiller.
