COACH Bo Perasol was pleased with the UP Maroons’ effort despite the loss to the Ateneo Blue Eagles and is very confident they won’t get into an early losing run in UAAP Season 80.
"Move on kaagad. Kailangan putulin agad. Doon pa lang pinutol ko na because these are young guys parang unstable," said Perasol. "We lost badly but it happens. We move on to Sunday we have to have a better game."
Perasol said he was happy to see his players fight until the very end against a team that he considers well above their level.
"Malayo … malayo. But mararamdaman mo na nandon sila hindi takot, hindi namamalahibo. Kapos lang sa defense," said Perasol after the match.
"That's what we lack in terms of experience, in terms of winning experience against a championship team like Ateneo. So malaking bagay yung kakulangan namin so we need to work on that para may chance kami," he added.
Perasol admitted being beaten on all aspects of the game, particularly inside the paint where the Blue Eagles exploited the Fighting Maroons' lack of ceiling.
The Fighting Maroons got outscored 31-7 on second chance points and were outrebounded 51-38 by a taller Ateneo squad.
"Nagkasunod sunod na we got outrebounded, we got outscored in the paint, 31-7 second chance points nakakawala ng momentum," Perasol continued.
"It's not as if we were well-matched so in order for us to have a chance to win against team like Ateneo, kailangan kami yung aggressor ang nangyari kami yung naghintay," Perasol added.
Save for rookie Juan Gomez de Liano, Perasol saw no other saving grace as star guard Paul Desiderio was hounded all game long and limited to just nine points on 4-18 shooting.
The Maroons look to bounce back when they take on the lowly University of the East Warriors.
