ON the eve of the game against La Salle, University of the Philippines coach Bo Perasol said the Maroons need an 'A1 plus 1' game to deal the Green Archers their first loss in UAAP Season 78.

    The Maroons fell just short.

“’Yung sinabi ko na A1 plus 1, ‘yung plus 1, hindi namin nagawa,” Perasol joked after the Maroons took the Green Archers to the wire before surrendering a 72-78 loss on Saturday afternoon.

Still, Perasol had a lot to be pleased about over the loss. He in fact felt the Maroons could've had a better chance of dealing the Green Archers a big surprise if not for some missed free throws and a couple of turnovers.

The Maroons made just six of 14 free throws and had far more turnovers than La Salle, 33-24.

“If we could made some of our free throws, it willl be closer. Kung hindi masyado marami ang turnovers, we could have done better,” Perasol said after the Maroons fell to 3-7 overall.

Perasol said he had to give his key players longer minutes in order for the Maroons to stay in the game. In the end, La Salle was just too strong.

“Aside from the missed free throws and the offensive rebounds, their attitude and the tempo of the game were the things that we really wanted to happen.

“In the end, La Salle just had many forces. I played some (players) for the whole quarter, some played extended minutes. That is why in the end, we suffered, I think, in terms of fatigue,” Perasol said.

“Any five that La Salle throws at us, walang tapon e. Despite all of those, my team stood their ground against a formidable team,” he added.

If UP can play every game as well as it did against La Salle, the Maroons will have a chance of beating any team in the league, Perasol said.

“From where we came from in the first round, we have improved," the former Ateneo coach said. "If we can face La Salle that way, I think we can face any team."
