UNIVERSITY of the Philippines coach Bo Perasol feels the three-game suspension slapped on him by the UAAP for his rant against the referees in a loss to Ateneo over the weekend was "too much."

"I’ve already said my piece about regretting what I did. A three-game suspension for an ejection is just too much," said the Maroons coach, adding the is looking to appeal the decision.

The Office of the Commissioner handed down the penalty on Tuesday after a "thorough review and careful deliberation made by the technical committee."

Perasol charged and unleashed profanities at referee Jaime Rivano early in the third quarter of UP's 89-63 loss to Ateneo last Sunday. He was slapped two technical fouls, leading to his ejection.

An ejection merits an automatic one-game suspension, but the Office of the Commissioner added two more games based on Art. 9.2.3. of the UAAP General Tournament Guidelines, 2019.

It reads: "It shall also be the responsibility of the Tournament Commissioner or its equivalent to impose disciplinary measures on any student-athlete, team official, and/or any accompanying delegation member who violates the fundamental values of respect, fairness, civility, honesty, and responsibility in the course of any game or sporting event."

UP, though, has 48 hours to file the appeal following the imposition of the penalty, according to Art. 9.2.8. on the grounds of the aggrieved party believing that the fine "is excessive."

The fourth-year mentor feels the suspension puts the Maroons in a disadvantageous position, especially with how close the race to the Final Four is heading to the second round.

"The tournament is in its critical stage going into the second round. It’s practically half of it," he said.

"To appeal this decision is the most rational action to do."

If Perasol's penalty isn't reversed, he will miss UP's games against Far Eastern University on Sunday, the University of the East on October 12, and against University of Santo Tomas on October 16, all at the Mall of Asia Arena.
