ATENEO has added a Lithuania camp to its overseas training schedule as the Blue Eagles look to boost their bid to regain the basketball title in the UAAP.
The Blue Eagles are also returning to their usual training site in Las Vegas this summer under renowned trainer Joe Abunassar and will play in a tournament in Korea.
Ateneo coach Bo Perasol said the Blue Eagles’ Lithuania camp won’t be held until midyear, hoping the timing will be perfect for the start of Season 78 on September 5.
The Blue Eagles are looking to learn a lot in the training camp in Europe, where NCAA champion San Beda and the national squad Gilas Pilipinas also held camp.
“Naging experience kasi ng San Beda ’yun. Nag-decline ang San Beda this year so ’yun ang naging suggestion,” said Perasol.
The Blue Eagles are expected to play collegiate basketball teams in Lithuania, a force in world basketball having produced such players as Arvydas Sabonis, Sarunas Marciolonis, and recently NBA players Jonas Valanciunas of the Toronto Raptors and Donatas Motiejunas of the Houston Rockets.
Ateneo is again skipping the Filoil summer preseason tournament but is seeing action in the Philippine-Australia Goodwill Basketball Invitational.
