IS Blackwater ready to come in as a major booster of University of Santo Tomas if ever Aries Dimaunahan gets the coaching job of the gold, white, and black?
Team owner Dioceldo Sy wouldn’t directly commit on the possibility, but is very much open of extending a hand should Dimaunahan becomes the next coach of the multi-titled Pontifical school.
“Let’s just see,” was the curt reply of the president and CEO of the Ever Bilena Cosmetics Inc., the mother franchise of Blackwater in the PBA.

Dimaunahan is one of the UST alumni who are in the long list of applicants for the vacant coaching job of the Tigers following the recent resignation of former mentor Aldin Ayo.
That Blackwater’s interest to help finance the men’s basketball team with Dimaunahan on board is quite understandable.
The 42-year-old Dimaunahan is currently a top deputy of the Elite, and once served as the team’s PBA coach on an interim basis.
The partnership with Blackwater actually goes a long way back as Dimaunahan also suited up for the team – then carrying the banner Blu Detergent – back in the days of the defunct Philippine Basketball League (PBL).
Dimaunahan even had to ask the blessing of Sy before he formally applied for the UST job.
“I have given him my blessing, but he has to continue being assistant coach of Blackwater,” said Sy.
“I think Aris is already ripe for this new journey in his career.”
Of course, sponsoring a school program is nothing new to Blackwater.
The Elite have long been a booster of reigning, six-time UAAP women’s champion National University, whose coach, Pat Aquino, is also among the deputy coaches of Blackwater.
The Tigers were being backed by Ironcon Builders of Jimi Lim during the two-year stay of Ayo in the school. But in the aftermath of his resignation, it is unknown whether Ironcon would remain as UST’s main backer.
