    Torres says alley-oop pass far from perfect, but dunkin' Mbala 'made me look good'

    THOMAS Torres said Ben Mbala 'made me look good' after turning his lob pass into a thunderous dunk by La Salle’s sensational big man.

    Torres and Mbala linked up for undoubtedly the play of the game in La Salle’s 97-81 win over Ateneo on a 2-on-1 break - an alley-oop play that Mbala finished emphatically to give the Green Archers a 76-55 lead.

    That was one of Torres' four assists in the game as the former La Salle Greenhills guard finished with eight points and eight boards in the Green Archers' seven successive victory.

    Torres, however, felt the pass was far from perfect.

    “For me, it was kinda not so good pass pero he made me look good with that pass,” said Torres.

    Mbala had a different take on the highlight dunk.

    “I think that was good,” said Mbala, referring to the pass. “Most of the time when he sees me running on the floor, he just throw it at the back and I do the rest.”

    Torres said he and Mbala have practiced that play many times in training.

    “Every day kasi, we work on that pass, as in isang bulong ko lang kay Ben, alam na niya kung saan ko ibabato. ‘Yun ‘yung sinasabi na naaamoy na namin ang isa’t isa. Alam na namin kung saan pupunta ‘yung bola,” said Torres.

    For his part, Mbala said he was only ‘lucky’ to be able to complete the day.

    “It was just a fastbreak. I was lucky enough that my teammate saw me running the floor. He just threw it up and I caught it. It just happened,” said Mbala, who ended up with 28 points, 13 rebounds, and five steals.
