ATENEO coach Tab Baldwin said he has received an inquiry from a Turkish club about La Salle big man Ben Mbala.
Baldwin said Mbala’s talent is getting noticed as he bared receiving a message from a Turkey team inquiring about the two-time UAAP MVP from La Salle.
“I just was getting messages from a club from Turkey asking about him,” said Baldwin to reporters without revealing the identity of the Turkish club.
Interest in Mbala among foreign teams is no longer a surprise since the Cameroonian played for his country in the Fiba Afrobasket recently, forcing him to miss the first two games of UAAP Season 80.
Baldwin said he is no longer surprised with the interest in Mbala.
“I gave Ben a very good reference because I believe he deserves a very good reference. And I would do that for any player that I think is an outstanding player as Ben is."
In Game Two, Mbala bounced back from a lackadaisical debut in the best-of-three series as he scored 20 points, pulled down 16 rebounds, and swatted away four shots in La Salle’s 92-83 win over Ateneo.
Baldwin said he expected nothing less from Mbala.
“Ben is a good player. Even in Game One, he showed good things. He is a very, very good player,” said the former Gilas Pilipinas coach.
