DE La Salle proved too good for Adamson in a 91-75 win that stretched to five its unbeaten start to the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball tournament on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Ben Mbala had 15 of his 21 points in the first half while also grabbing 16 rebounds for the Green Archers, who opened an early 19-point lead and kept a safe distance from the Falcons the rest of the way.
Prior to coaching against a team he led to five UAAP championships, Adamson coach Franz Pumaren had hoped to make the game close to have a chance at surprising La Salle in the endgame.
That wasn’t the case on Saturday.
La Salle broke the game open right in the first half after going on a 13-2 run in the second period for a 39-26 advantage. The Archers were never seriously threatened from there as the Falcons simply couldn't match their firepower and power off both boards.
Jeron Teng added 14 points for La Salle while Aljun Melecio had 13 points in only 11 minutes. Kib Montalbo also had an impressive all-around game with 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and two steals.
Jerrick Ahanmisi had 22 points for the Falcons, who led 8-4 early on but were not able to sustain it the rest of the way.
The Falcons fell to 3-2.
