NOT only will Carl Tamayo's move to University of the Philippines allow him to fulfill his dream, it also means that the line of Iskos in his family will continue.

The Gilas Pilipinas Youth forward cited his aunt Mary Anne as one of his influences as he chose to move to Diliman for his collegiate career.

Mary Anne, a UP graduate, has been a constant presence in the growth of Tamayo as he embarks on a new chapter in his career as student athlete.

"We want to be both students and athletes," he said. "Basketball is not forever so quality education is very important for us."

"If and when our basketball careers end, we want to have a back-up plan to fall back on. I learned this from my UP alum aunt, Mary Anne Tamayo, who raised me up."

Tamayo, 19, joins the Fighting Maroons in UAAP Season 83 while taking sports science.

The 6-foot-8 banger is coming off a stellar high school career with National University-Nazareth School and is heading to college with a pair of UAAP titles under his belt.

He averaged 12.6 points on 45-percent shooting, to go with 10.4 rebounds last UAAP Season 82 as he guided the Bullpups to a perfect run to the championship, where he was hailed as the Finals MVP.

In UP, Tamayo will remain teammates with his NU guard Gerry Abadiano and will link up anew with his Gilas Youth teammate and fellow rookie RC Calimag from La Salle Greenhills.
