A festive bonfire served as the crowning glory of the Ateneo Blue Eagles side that made a successful defense of the UAAP men's basketball championship.
Students, alumni and officials gathered at the school's Katipunan campus on Saturday night to honor the Blue Eagles as well as four other Ateneo teams that won championships in the collegiate league's 81st season.
But the toasts of the night were, of course, the Blue Eagles, who, from star Thirdy Ravena to birthday-boy Ange Kouame to graduating guard Anton Asistio, were feted during the 'Bonfire of Champions' celebration.
The biggest tribute came from Tab Baldwin, the American-New Zealander coach who has worked all over the globe in close to four decades of coaching.
"This is a great group of guys," said Baldwin. :They are the easiest group of men I coached in 37 years, and I think the results are what they deserve."
