ADAMSON has brushed off speculations that coach Leo Austria has fallen out of favor with university officials, saying the Falcons community remains firmly behind the coach despite the team’s recent woes.
Athletic director Malou Isip clarified that the school and its alumni have been supportive of Austria, contrary to the coach’s statement earlier that some quarters at Adamson have questioned his ability to coach.
“We have been giving him the proper support along with the alumni. In fact, mas aggressive ang alumni ngayon,” said Isip.
Adamson has fallen into hard times this season highlighted by a six-game skid that only ended when the Falcons beat winless University of the Philippines, 67-53, on Saturday.
“They are starting to doubt my ability,” Austria said on Saturday as he announced that he will no longer return as the team’s head coach next season.
“I will not insist myself if I’m not competent.”
Austria is committed to finishing the remainder of the tournament and Isip said that they will iron out the head coaching position after the season.
“We will finalize everything after the basketball season,” Isip said.
Austria has been Adamson’s coach for seven seasons (2006, 2008 to present), leading the Falcons to Final Four appearances on three occasions.
